Los Cabos in November: Art Walk Opens Nov. 5 as Whale Season Approaches

San José del Cabo's Art Walk returns November 5, 2026, adding weekly gallery evenings to Los Cabos' November attractions. The month generally brings more comfortable weather for coastal outings, though hurricane season has not yet ended and the main whale-watching season is still ahead.

November weather and storm precautions

After the hotter summer months, November typically offers more comfortable conditions for sightseeing, waterfront dining and exploring the desert landscape around Los Cabos. Sunshine is abundant, but conditions can change during the month.

ClimaAtlas data covering 2005-2025 put average November daytime highs at 29°C (84°F) and nighttime temperatures at 21°C (70°F). The monthly averages include about nine hours of sunshine per day, roughly one rainy day and total rainfall of 17 mm (0.7 in). Sea temperatures average 28°C (82°F). These are climate averages, not a forecast for a particular trip.

The Eastern Pacific hurricane season runs from May 15 through November 30. Cabo Adventures notes that peak activity typically builds in late August and that Hurricane Norma made landfall in Baja California Sur in October 2023. Although tropical cyclone activity generally declines late in the season, visitors should continue checking forecasts before traveling.

Gallery evenings in San José del Cabo

San José del Cabo offers a quieter setting than Cabo San Lucas, with traditional architecture, public squares, galleries and restaurants in its historic center. Visitors can explore regional cuisine and local art while staying within easy reach of nearby coastal resorts.

According to the Gallery District Association, as reported by What's in Cabo, the 2026-27 Art Walk season begins Thursday, November 5, 2026, and continues through June 2027. Events take place each Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m.

Visitors can walk the Gallery District streets for free, starting near Plaza Mijares and exploring Obregon, Comonfort, Morelos, Guerrero and Hidalgo. Food, drinks and artwork cost extra. The galleries feature both local and international art, while nearby restaurants provide options for an evening meal.

Cabo San Lucas outings and beach safety

Cabo San Lucas has a livelier waterfront, with marina restaurants and boat trips to El Arco, the coastal rock formation near Land's End. The area offers views of the waters linking the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of California, also called the Sea of Cortez.

Sailing, snorkeling and other marine outings depend on the weather and sea conditions. Beachgoers also need to distinguish a scenic shore from a safe place to swim: strong currents, shore breaks and changing conditions make some beaches unsuitable. Follow posted warnings and use designated swimming areas.

What November visitors can expect from marine wildlife

Migrating humpbacks head south from colder northern waters toward Mexico's warmer coast, and the first sightings around Baja California Sur may occur in November. The main whale-watching season generally extends from December through April, with better opportunities later in winter. A November visit does not guarantee a sighting.

Elsewhere along Baja California Sur's Pacific coast, gray whales migrate to warm, shallow lagoons from their Arctic feeding grounds. Cabo Adventures describes their round trip as roughly 10,000 miles and identifies December 15 through April 15 as the peak period in Laguna San Ignacio, Magdalena Bay and Scammon's Lagoon. The operator also reports sightings of humpbacks and blue whales in the Sea of Cortez and Los Cabos region.

Cabo Adventures cites the latest NOAA estimate of approximately 12,950 gray whales for the 2024/2025 season, compared with a peak of roughly 27,000 in 2016. That decline underscores the importance of responsible wildlife tourism. Visitors should choose licensed excursions and follow responsible viewing practices that help protect the animals.

A separate seasonal wildlife attraction is in the Bay of La Paz, where whale sharks begin arriving in the fall. According to Cabo Adventures, Mexico's protected-areas agency CONANP has documented an elevated presence in October and November.

Before booking, travelers should check accommodation and excursion availability as well as current weather forecasts, particularly when planning outings on the water.
