Las Coloradas road closures to begin October 26

Yaiza council plans to restrict vehicle traffic on Calle Las Buganvillas and Calle Las Acacias starting Monday, October 26, as its €1 million road improvement project continues in Las Coloradas, Playa Blanca. Work on each section is expected to last three days.

Seven-road project moves to new streets

The council is asking residents, visitors and accommodation businesses to take account of the temporary closures on the two streets.

The Las Coloradas project covers seven roads and is paid for entirely from Yaiza's municipal budget, according to the council, led by Mayor Óscar Noda. Construction began on September 21, 2026, on Calle Playa de Afre, where a temporary closure was expected to last six days, before moving to other streets.

Public Works Councilor Ángel Lago said hotels in Las Coloradas had received notice two weeks before the project began so they could make transportation arrangements. He also asked residents, businesses and accommodation complexes to cooperate during the disruption.

Elsewhere in Las Coloradas, crews are making accessibility improvements on Calle Las Palmeras this week under the municipality's paving plan. That plan also covers Ombú, El Moral and part of Avenida de Papagayo.

Avenida de Papagayo renovation and parking

A separate €2.6 million renovation of Avenida de Papagayo extends from the town's church to the Ciudad Jardín roundabout. Current construction is between the Dream Playa Dorada hotel and the roundabout at the connecting road. The work includes repaving, sidewalk renovations and accessibility improvements.

The council says the project's first phase, from El Carmen church to Maciot Street, has reopened. Traffic on that stretch now runs one way toward Las Coloradas, and drivers have access to 65 new free angled parking spaces.

The project also provides for another 35 parking spaces and a loading and unloading area on municipal land behind the church, as well as a free 300-space parking lot on the municipal esplanade opposite the Princesa Yaiza hotel. Hermanos Tavío Santana is the contractor.

Municipal funding and earlier project status

Noda has put the combined municipal investment in three Playa Blanca road projects at €4.9 million: Las Coloradas, Avenida de Papagayo and the entrance to the resort from Femés.

The Las Coloradas work had not yet begun when La Provincia reported on Yaiza's construction program in late August 2026. The €1 million contract for paving and accessibility work on its seven roads had been signed, but execution by the contractor was still pending.

At that time, the council had €11 million in construction underway, according to La Provincia. That total included the €2.6 million Avenida de Papagayo renovation, the €1.3 million modernization of the Playa Blanca entrance from Femés, and projects in Uga and San Marcial del Rubicón.
