Colima Begins Alcaraces Interchange Upgrades Exceeding $3.3 Million

Construction has begun on new ramps and other road improvements at the Alcaraces Interchange in Cuauhtémoc, Colima. State authorities put the investment at more than 62 million Mexican pesos, reported by Mexico Now as more than US$3.3 million, and expect the project to benefit over 31,000 municipal residents.

New connections and highway repairs

The project will add an exit from the Guadalajara-Colima highway to Alcaraces and an entrance from Palmillas onto the Colima-Guadalajara highway. Crews will also upgrade existing access ramps and build two turnaround facilities near Palmillas and Alcaraces.

Pavement repairs and changes to curve geometry are also part of the work on the Alcaraces-Trapichillos state highway. The tender identifies the road as state highway 57-P and places the grade-separated interchange at kilometer 1+320. Its scope includes adjustments to the horizontal alignment of selected curves and routine road maintenance.

Governor Indira Vizcaíno Silva's administration is carrying out the project through the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Urban Development and Mobility (Seidum). Colima Noticias and El Economista also reported the investment as exceeding 62 million pesos.

Tender terms and earlier plans

A notice in the Periódico Oficial del Estado de Colima, available through vLex México, lists the work under public state tender SEIDUM-018/2026. It specified an October 5, 2026, scheduled start and a 180-calendar-day construction period. Contractors were required to have at least 20 million pesos in equity.

The state government had announced plans in December 2024 to seek bids in the first quarter of 2025 for rehabilitation of the toll-free Trapichillos-Alcaraces highway and entrance and exit connections to the Colima-Guadalajara highway. That announcement said financing would come from concession compensation payments, known as contraprestaciones, from the Macrolibramiento Sur project.
