Holiday observances in Mexico City

Sheinbaum announced the one-day break in La Mañanera del Pueblo on Friday, October 30, at Palacio Nacional in Mexico City. A start time for the November 3 session has not been confirmed.

Families observe Day of the Dead on November 1 and 2, remembering deceased relatives through cemetery visits, flowers and altars. UNESCO describes the indigenous celebration as combining pre-Hispanic religious rites with Catholic feasts brought by Europeans in the 16th century. Originally proclaimed by UNESCO in 2003, it joined the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008.

Mexico City's annual Gran Desfile de Día de Muertos began Saturday, October 31, at 2 p.m. local time, equivalent to 4 p.m. U.S. Eastern Daylight Time. U.S. clocks changed the following day, November 1. Visitors to the capital should expect crowds and street closures near the Zócalo on November 1 and 2.

Trucking protests suspended, talks remain open

The holiday follows a national trucking strike called by freight chamber CANACAR over highway insecurity, extortion and cargo theft. The action began Monday, October 26, with no fixed end date and support from trucking association HAMOTAC. Highways in Nuevo León, the state surrounding the industrial hub of Monterrey, were among those listed for protests.

The following day, CANACAR and Mexico's Interior Ministry agreed that blockades would be lifted and protests suspended. They also established working groups with the government. No deadline has been announced for those groups, and it remains unclear whether every trucking organization joined CANACAR in suspending its protests.

The government and CANACAR gave different accounts of the strike's reach. As of 9:30 a.m. on October 26, the Interior Ministry, known as Segob, counted 858 participants and 691 vehicles at 38 protest locations in 19 states. CANACAR challenged the figures, saying the movement extended to all 32 states.

Latin Times identified highway crime and a tax change as the immediate triggers. It reported 30 to 40 cargo robberies a day on federal highways, more than 70% involving violence. CANACAR's records listed approximately 1,105 stolen truck units and 15 operator deaths since January 2026.

The tax dispute concerns a reform to the 2027 Revenue Law, or Ley de Ingresos 2027. It reduced the annual-revenue threshold for a tax credit covering up to 50% of highway toll costs from 300 million pesos to 250 million pesos. According to Latin Times, the change effectively excludes mid-size freight carriers from the benefit.

Gloria Trevi's concert and awards schedule

Later in November, Mexican pop singer Gloria Trevi is scheduled to bring her Celebration show to Mexico City's Auditorio Nacional. The concert is set for Saturday, November 28, 2026, at 8 p.m. local time.

A HEAT Latin Music Awards press release cited by Billboard credits Trevi with 55 sold-out concerts at Auditorio Nacional and 14 at Arena CDMX, claiming both totals exceed those of any other Latin American artist at the respective venues.

Billboard reported on October 29 that Trevi had been named the HEAT Latin Music Awards' first "Artista Oro" for 2026. She is due to receive the honor at a November 5 ceremony in Puerto Vallarta. The outlet also reported that she is preparing her 15th studio album for an early 2027 release.
